How to Tell If Your Phone Has MagSafe

MagSafe is built into every iPhone starting with the iPhone 12, which launched in October 2020. If your iPhone has a model number of 12 or higher, it has MagSafe magnets inside and supports MagSafe charging and accessories. This includes all variants within each generation, meaning the standard, mini, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max models all include MagSafe.
To check your exact iPhone model, open Settings, tap General, then tap About. The Model Name field will show your iPhone model. If it says iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 16, iPhone 17, iPhone SE (3rd generation), or iPhone SE 4, you have MagSafe support.

The Physical Test
If you are unsure about your iPhone model and want a quick physical confirmation, hold a small magnet near the center of the back of your phone. On a MagSafe iPhone, you will feel a distinct pull as the magnet is attracted to the embedded magnet ring. Move the magnet in a circle around the center of the phone and you will notice the attraction is strongest in a ring shape, corresponding to the MagSafe magnet array.
On a non-MagSafe iPhone, you may feel a very slight magnetic attraction from internal components like the speaker magnets, but there will be no strong, defined ring of magnetic pull. The difference is obvious once you compare the two.
You can also test with any MagSafe accessory. Place a MagSafe charger or wallet against the back of your phone. If it snaps firmly into position with a satisfying click and holds itself in place, your phone has MagSafe. If it slides around or barely holds on, your phone either lacks MagSafe or you have a thick case interfering with the magnetic connection.
Why MagSafe Support Matters
Knowing whether your phone has MagSafe is important because it determines which accessories will work well with your device. MagSafe-compatible phones get the full experience: fast magnetic wireless charging at 15 or 25 watts, secure snap-on wallets and car mounts, battery packs that stay attached during use, and compatibility with the growing ecosystem of Qi2 accessories.
Phones without MagSafe can still use many of these accessories with aftermarket magnetic solutions, but the experience is compromised. MagSafe Charging Speed by iPhone Model

Checking an Android Phone for Qi2 Support
If you have an Android phone and want to know whether it supports Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, check the specifications on the manufacturer's website or in the documentation that came with your phone. Look specifically for "Qi2" in the wireless charging specifications. Standard "Qi" support alone means your phone can charge wirelessly but does not have the magnetic alignment ring.
As of mid-2026, the Android phones with confirmed Qi2 support include the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, Samsung Galaxy S26 series, Google Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro, OnePlus 13, and Motorola Razr 2026. This list is growing as more manufacturers adopt the standard. The Google Pixel 10 stands out because it has built-in magnets similar to the iPhone, while the Samsung and OnePlus devices require a magnetic case for the snap-on experience.
If your Android phone does not support Qi2, you can still add magnetic functionality with a stick-on magnet ring or a case with embedded magnets. This gives you the physical snap-on attachment for accessories like car mounts and wallets, though it will not upgrade your phone's wireless charging speed beyond its native capability.
